Our working environment

Anderssons Bygg’s general rules of order and safety apply to all our permanent facilities and construction sites. It’s important to us that everyone can feel comfortable, respect each other and come home from work alive and well. The rules therefore apply to everyone who stays at our facilities/workplaces, including hired staff, contractors, other partners and our own employees. The general rules of order and protection are supplemented with specific rules for each workplace (these are clarified in the workplace’s work environment plan). In order to achieve an injury-free workplace, it is essential that we are all aware of our actions and do not take risky shortcuts due to time constraints or convenience. It is also important that we point out safety deficiencies and immediately report incidents and accidents to the Project Manager/IDEA.

Risks at work

Risks of ill-health and accidents are prevented by carrying out regular risk assessments of all risks in the workplace. Project risk inventories and work preparation are used to identify risks and opportunities in the work. Risks are assessed and measures are proposed to prevent accidents and incidents. Everyone in the workplace must be aware of the risks involved in their work and the safety measures that apply.

The project manager is responsible for ensuring that work preparations are carried out, that safety representatives and relevant contractors are given the opportunity to participate, and that proposed safety measures are implemented before the start of the work element.
Our contractors must always provide information on risks (risk assessment/work preparation) and proposed measures to the Project Manager/Manager, before work begins.
Anyone who finds that their own work poses an immediate and serious danger to life or health must stop it immediately, ensure that no one else can be affected and immediately inform the Project Manager/Manager and the Safety Officer.

Information and skills

We require that everyone in our workplaces is adequately informed and has the necessary skills to stay and work safely.

Before starting work, everyone working in the workplace must undergo an induction. It includes this document, workplace-specific rules, identified hazards and measures, and possible evacuation and recovery procedures. After completing the safety introduction, the participants acknowledge that they have taken part and understood the content.
Those who require additional qualifications to perform their work, such as crane operators, loaders, scaffolders, traverse users, must prove their qualifications by presenting written documentation of completed training to the Project Manager/Manager. In cases where written permission issued by your own employer is also required, e.g. to use a machine.
Excavators, cranes, hoists, lifts and similar equipment must be inspected at certain intervals. Equipment that does not have an approved inspection must not be used at the workplace. The inspection certificate must be presented to the Project Manager/Manager before work commences.
Visitors are not allowed to move freely in the workplace without an escort.

Workplace design

Andersson’s construction sites are designed to create safe conditions for all who work on and around them.

Where a TA plan (traffic facility plan) is required, it must be posted and accessible to all.
Everyone in the workplace must clean their work area of all pickable litter continuously throughout the day.
Materials and supplies should only be stored in the designated area. This should be done in an orderly and steady manner to prevent them from tipping over, rolling out or spreading.
The workplace, especially access routes, stairs, scaffolding and work platforms, must be free of materials or obstacles that could create tripping hazards or other dangers.
Access roads and parking lots should be cleared of snow and sanded when necessary to prevent slippery conditions.
Communication, transport and evacuation routes must never be blocked.
Within the work area, vehicles may only be parked in designated areas.
Everyone in the workplace should be aware of and respect the fact that an area of elevated risk, within the work area, may be cordoned off and a warning sign posted.
At Anderssons Bygg’s workplaces, the project manager is responsible for monitoring that third parties are not harmed by ensuring that only authorised persons are given access to the workplace.
Everyone in the workplace should be aware of and point out any shortcomings that may arise in the boundaries around a workplace.

Personal protective equipment

Where adequate protection against ill health or accidents cannot be achieved by other means, personal protective equipment shall be used.

It is the employer’s responsibility to provide the correct PPE to be used, and to ensure that staff have the necessary qualifications.
Compulsory personal protective equipment on our construction sites is a hard hat, protective footwear (toe cap and spiked toe cap) and class 3 protective clothing.
Work with chainsaws may only be carried out by those with a valid chainsaw licence and saw trousers must be worn for protection.
Additional personal protective equipment must be used in accordance with the relevant risk assessments/work preparation/protection instructions, for example, in the use of hearing protection, fall protection equipment, specific work clothing, respiratory protection, etc.
The user is responsible for maintaining and storing the equipment so that it retains its protective effectiveness and hygienic standard.
Life jackets are compulsory when working on, above or near water.

Protective devices

If the work involves a risk of injury, a temporary protection device must be erected around the work area.

A protective device such as a guardrail may only be removed after risk assessment / work preparation and a specific approval from the Project Manager / Manager. The person who removes the protective device is obliged to restore it.
Anyone who is going to use machinery, equipment or technical devices must check that the required protective devices are in working order, are correct and are safely installed before starting work.
All through floor openings must be covered, fixed and marked. The material covering the hole must be able to bear any load that may occur.

Fall protection

Falls are the most common cause of serious accidents in the workplace. Where there is a risk of falling, work activities should always be risk assessed/prepared.

Where there is a risk of falling, the risk should primarily be reduced by scaffolding with guard rails, protective covers or other technical protection solutions. Secondly, safety nets or other collective protection should be used and thirdly, personal fall protection equipment should be used.
Work with fall protection equipment must never be carried out alone
When using a mobile work platform ex. boom lift, scissor lift, personal fall protection equipment is mandatory. All persons in the lift must be anchored to a defined anchorage point.
Ladders may only be used in exceptional circumstances and then in accordance with a risk assessment/work preparation approved by the Project Manager.

Dam

Measures must be taken to reduce or screen out dusty work, so that other occupational groups do not have to be exposed to the dust generated, through the planning and selection of methods, machinery and equipment.

Noisy activities

Measures shall be taken to reduce or screen out particularly noisy work as far as possible, through the planning and selection of methods, machinery and equipment. Noise should be reduced as close to the source as possible.

Audio equipment (radio, headsets with radio, or equivalent) may only be used with the approval of the Project Leader/Manager.

Fire protection

Smoking is only allowed outside in the designated area.
Hot work may only be carried out by those who have a current training certificate and permission from the licensing authority. Hot work means welding, cutting and similar work involving a fire hazard.
Everyone in the workplace should be aware of the location of emergency exits and the assembly point, as well as the location of fire extinguishing and first aid equipment.
When not in use, gas cylinders should be stored upright and well anchored with the protective cover attached in the designated place with a visible warning sign.

Electrical safety

Only an authorised installer, or an electrician working under an authorised installer, may interfere with electrical installations at the workplace.

Electrical cables should be covered or suspended as far as possible. Coverage should not create a trip hazard.
All electrical tools, equipment and cords should be checked regularly. Defective equipment must be taken out of service.
All electrical installations must be equipped with earth leakage circuit breakers.

Waste management

Measures must be taken to ensure that waste/garbage is handled appropriately at each workplace. Source separation in all fractions must be possible at all our permanent workplaces, but we must also work on waste prevention as far as possible. Other waste must be managed according to the municipality’s waste plans:

Chemical products / Hazardous substances

Hazardous substances may only be used in accordance with the guidelines/instructions from the risk assessment/work preparation carried out and the associated Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

Contractors must always provide the Project Manager with details of the chemical products/hazardous substances (including SDS) they handle and ensure that those working with the products have received adequate training/information on safe handling.
There should be a list of current MSDSs for health and environmentally hazardous substances handled in our workplaces. These should be available to everyone in the workplace.

Alcohol and drugs

A person who is under the influence of alcohol or has a hangover in the workplace is a danger to himself, his colleagues and his environment. In cases where the contractor does not have its own drug policy, Andersson’s Construction Drug Policy applies.

Alcohol and drugs must not be present in our workplaces. Affected persons must be removed from the workplace immediately, and the respective employer is responsible for ensuring their return. See also our procedure for

Disciplinary measures

We require everyone in the workplace to follow our general rules of order and safety. Those who violate these rules may be warned and/or expelled from the workplace. Refusal means that the person must leave the workplace immediately. Penalties may also be claimed, as agreed with the contractor. Repeated rejections can lead to dismissal.
